What Should I Expect When I Come to CenterPoint?

At CenterPoint, we understand that visiting a church for the first time can be a bit of a leap of faith, not knowing what to expect. You probably have many questions you’d like to have answered before you visit, so we’ve provided some answers below to commonly asked questions. Click the questions for our response and feel free to contact us with any other questions!

          What are the people like?

          What should I wear?

What do you have for my kids?

What will the church service be like?

Will I have to stand up and introduce myself?

          What is the music like?

          What are the messages like?

          What is the building like?

          How do I get there?

If it’s been a long time since you’ve been to church, CenterPoint has you in mind! There’s already enough you have to think about when you’re visiting a church for the first time. We hope that getting some of this “stuff” out of the way not only encourages you to join us for worship, but also helps you to connect with the hope and encouragement that God has for you.

What are the people like?

Obviously everyone’s different, but at CenterPoint you’ll at least find people that are real. You won’t find a place where you’re expected to put on a pasted smile and be someone you’re not. The people are genuinely friendly – not fake – and they support and encourage each other in their spiritual journeys. We’re all at different points along that journey and have our own struggles, but at CenterPoint everyone is accepted as they are (really!!) and encouraged to become all God wants them to be.

What should I wear?

One thing you won’t find at CenterPoint Church is a dress code, written or otherwise. Since God looks at the heart, so do we. There’s no need to dress up and put on your “Sunday best” when you visit. Just come as you are and receive a warm welcome. We want our worship to be a place where we can all be completely authentic with God and each other. So dress casually and comfortably.

What do you have for my kids?

For the Youngest Among Us

The nursery is open every Sunday for infants up to age four. Anyone who works with our children has had a complete background check and CPR classes.

For Our PreSchoolers & Kindergarteners, 1st & 2nd Graders, and 3rd – 5th Graders

Each Sunday, after singing together, Pastor Dave dismisses the kids to the three KidsOwn Worship groups. Each quarter focuses on a different foundational truth about God. Each quarter consists of fun, themed, age-appropriate lessons. Some truths they will learn are: God is perfect, forgiving, faithful, real, giving, powerful, and good.

What will the church service be like?

The service generally looks like this:

…Welcome and a prayer from Pastor Dave

…Sing some songs with our praise band

…Share a few announcements

…Take the offering (Speaking of the offering – when the offering is taken for ministry expenses, don’t feel obligated to give. We’re not after your money (really!), we care about you. So feel free to let the offering plate pass you by and let us give and minister to you as our guest.

…Pastor Dave will share an encouraging and relevant message

…We’ll sing another song and we will close with a blessing

The service lasts about an hour – give or take a few minutes.

We also have some Sundays with a service that is extra special and looks nothing like this… so be prepared!

You’ll also find that at CenterPoint we seek to utilize modern arts and technology in order to worship in a way that is current. We use videos and PowerPoint presentations to make our music and messages visually rich. We also use short dramas, movie clips, interviews, and other visual arts to engage your heart so you can worship God with your spirit; and to engage your mind, so you can also worship Him in truth (John 4:24).

Will I have to stand and introduce myself?

No, no, no (we promise!)! At CenterPoint you won’t be singled out or pressured. Simply participate as you please and feel free to worship God as you feel comfortable.

What’s the music like?

Music has the power to speak to the heart! At CenterPoint you’ll experience modern music, led by our worship director, Eric, and supported by our house band and our praise team. The music is at times upbeat and celebratory and at other times reflective and worshipful. We sing easy-to-learn, contemporary songs like you might hear locally on 104.9 The River, as well as modern arrangements of classic hymns like Amazing Grace.

What are the messages like?

At CenterPoint you’ll hear messages focused on real-life issues. Based solidly on Scripture, they’re designed to answer your spiritual questions and to give Biblical insights as to how to deal with the situations we all face in life. Pastor Dave Jansen is dedicated to making the truths of God’s Word understandable and applicable. You won’t be bored with long sermons that put you to sleep nor will you receive a guilt trip and be pushed into making spiritual decisions you’re not ready to make. You will simply be challenged and uplifted with Biblical principles that will lead you and your family to a happier, healthier life together.

What’s the building like?

At CenterPoint we worship in a very non-traditional place, because we believe the church is the people, not a building. We have a play place for the kids; our own CP Cafe; separate spaces for the nursery, KidsOwn Worship and Middle School Group; and our celebration room is part of a huge space with endless possibilities!
